The PewResearch Center released a study yesterday that reported that 24% of cell owners looked up product reviews while in a store last month.

While we have been watching our mobile audience grow at Viewpoints.com, this is still welcome news and validation of our belief that mobile devices will fundamentally change how shoppers do research.  Our vision at Viewpoints is to harness the power of consumer voices and opinions to provide better, clearer, product intelligence for everyone.  We have been hard at work on a mobile optimized version of our site and it will go live at the end of February.

TechCrunch reported on this story and made the following observation:

“While we’ve been witnessing the fact that mobile is becoming a significant part of the in-store and online shopping experience, the Pew report’s data only emphasizes this trend. And although consumers tend to shop at increased levels during the holiday season, there’s no doubt that mobile is going to be an important engagement platform for both online and brick and mortar retailers throughout the year.”

Viewpoints contributors have written 800,000 reviews of 100,000 consumer products.  The Viewpoints tech, design and data teams have crunched all this data to produce product intelligence in the form of product reviews and rankings.  All of this work, which speaks directly to these mobile trends will go live at the end of February.  2012 is going to be an exciting year!
